Tasmanian first home builders grant boosted

Builders grant will be doubled to $20,000

The first home builders grant will be doubled to $20,000 until June next year, with funds allocated in Thursday’s state budget.

Treasurer Peter Gutwien told Parliament on Wednesday the grant is expected to stimulate $175 million worth of building activity across the state.

Mr Gutwein said the extra grant money would be backdated to January 2016 so that Tasmanians who have already applied and qualified for the $10,000 grant can qualify for the boosted grant.

First home builders to sign on in the last five months will not miss out, with the deal backdated to January.
