The Client

Colin and Julie first approached Tasbuilt in January 2017, ahead of their planned trip to Tasmania in March, when they were hoping to find a perfect block to build their dream home in time for their retirement. In March 2017 they ventured down to Tasmania to spy out the land. After receiving a glowing endorsement of Tasbuilt Homes at the local East Coast real estate agent, they arranged to meet one of our team at our Hobart display home

By September of 2017 Colin and Julie had secured their piece of paradise in Beaumaris. Julie went to work modifying Tasbuilt’s plans to design a home that fully fitted their requirements. Things moved quickly from there, putting their Gippsland home on the market which sold promptly, and before they knew it they were in their camper van and on their way to their new home in Tasmania!

The Site

The location for this new home was a 3500m2 newly subdivided block in the small beachside town of Beaumaris, on Tasmania’s idyllic East Coast. Backing onto the Scamander Forest Reserve, and overlooking the vast Tasman Sea, this property was the perfect location for our clients who were looking for the ultimate ‘tree and sea-change.’ Beaumaris is about 15 minutes south of St Helens, a larger town equipped with hospital, shops and all the facilities that they needed to live comfortably and safely. The site was flat, mostly clear, and plenty of spare room for a shed (the man-cave) and the onsite waste water system that is required due to there being no reticulated sewer available in the area.

Prior to working with our clients to develop the home design, Tasbuilt’s team visited the site and assessed the surroundings to ensure that the design would be suitable, and make the most of the orientation, sun, and views

The Home

This home is a stunning adaption of one of Tasbuilt’s popular designs, the Blackman. Once Julies creative hand had pulled the design to pieces, there was not much to be seen of the original concept, but the result is amazing!

To fully capture the coastal outlook, the first move was to elevate the home a full 2.7m into the air, providing parking and storage areas in the enclosed under croft. It also meant the laundry could be moved downstairs, leaving more space for the generous living and bedroom areas on the first floor.

Access to upstairs is via either the internal or external staircase. Being a retirement home, Colin and Julie also made the wise choice of installing a lift, for easy access.

Upstairs, the huge glass doors and windows make this home a sunny and light filled haven, as warm and cheerful as its owners. There are so may beautiful features in this home, but some of the key items are the stunning marble bench tops, the soothing light coloured timber floors, and the clients beautiful furnishings that make the house a home

Finally, no home on the East Coast should be without a verandah for enjoying the beautiful surroundings. The generous verandah opens off the bedrooms and living, making a true indoor-outdoor experience

In the client’s words…

We never thought we would build a new home, so many of our friends who had built with a variety of companies had only horror stories to share about unmet expectations, dubious quality and surprise budget blowouts.

From the moment we first enquired about a new build with Tasbuilt we felt comfortable about engaging with them to create our forever home on Tasmania’s east coast.
We were given the opportunity to participate in the design and had flexibility in finishes both inside and out, no question went unanswered, we were supported throughout the whole process.
All services related to the establishment of our home were taken care of, there were no surprise budget blowouts , the quality of the materials and workmanship was very high , and whilst no job of any scale is without any hiccups, the very few minor issues that came up were dealt with in a professional and speedy manner.

I cannot speak highly enough of the heart of this business, it's people, each and every one l have dealt with has been friendly, focused on meeting our needs , knowledgeable and professional. My husband and l are happy to recommend Tasbuilt to anyone who would like to build a quality forever home, holiday cabin or extra accommodation of any kind. I’m happy to say that we count them not as just the builders that you wave goodbye to when the keys are handed over but as friends.

Thank you Tasbuilt team…
