Like the name implies, the living room is one of the most important, and well used rooms in our homes.

Unlike kitchens or bathrooms, the living room is usually our first thought when it comes to decorating a new home. At the same time, living rooms need to be one of the most versatile spaces in your home. They take on a number of different roles which can make getting the decor just right a bit of a challenge. For some ….. the living room is still a more formal space reserved mainly for entertaining guests; for others, it's a very casual space….it’s where the whole family (pets included) kick back after a long day to rest and relax or where we wile away the hours during a long weekend doing crosswords, watching TV and reading.

Along with the kitchen, it’s the social focus of the home. A mix of lighting such as floor lamps, table lamps and overhead lighting is ideal….

A nice big rug will define the space, and furnishings like a sofa and chairs create the boundary (a modular sofa that forms a right angle does a great job of this)…

No living room is complete without art…..of course one person’s view of art can vary drastically from another. What most people will agree on is that no room is complete without something on the walls.

Add some pops of colour – paint one wall, scatter some bright cushions, bring in Mother Nature with some beautiful greenery, paint the back of a book shelf…

Try placing a large mirror on a bare, boring wall. Choose an interesting frame or decorate a piece of mirror with cording or braid. If you have an old frame, consider painting it a bright colour. The mirror will reflect the colour from around the room and add light to the space.
